What we do
Roofing services for homes and commercial buildings
Pick the problem you have. Each page explains how we handle it, what it involves and what affects the price. Not sure what you need? Choose “Not sure, need an inspection” on the form and we will come look.
-

Roof Replacement
Full tear-off, new decking where it is needed, ice and water barrier, synthetic underlayment and new shingles from Owens Corning or GAF.
-

Roof Repair
Leaks, missing shingles, failed flashing and pipe boots. We find where the water gets in and fix that spot the right way.
-

Commercial & Flat Roofing
TPO, PVC, EPDM and modified bitumen for stores, offices, warehouses and multi-family buildings. Repairs and full replacements.
-

Skylights
Skylight replacement and skylight flashing repair. The best time to swap an old skylight is when the roof around it is open.
-

Gutters
New seamless gutters and downspouts sized for your roof, pitched to drain and fastened into solid fascia.
-

Chimneys
Chimney flashing repair: new step flashing, counter-flashing and crickets. Most chimney leaks start at the flashing, not the brick.
Why ProTech
What you get when you hire ProTech Roofing
The motto on our logo is Shelter With Confidence. Here is what it means on a real job, one worry at a time, with a Google review under each so you do not have to take our word for it.
“Am I going to be sold a roof I do not need?”
We look at the whole roof, and the attic when we can get in, take photos and show you what we found. One bad flashing on a sound roof gets priced as a flashing repair. Curling shingles, bare spots and leaks in several places get priced as a replacement, and we explain why. If a repair will do the job, we say so.
“I had a tiny hole in my EPDM roof. I looked online at the average cost to repair this in the area, and it said $200-500. I called the first roofer, got a 2500 estimate. Then, I got another estimate for 1100. Not only did Ervin give me a reasonable estimate, he came within the hour and fixed the roof. He was prompt, fair, and honest. 10/10”
“Will they show up, and will they still be around next year?”
Calls and form submissions get a reply the same business day. We have been doing this for twelve years, our registration number is on your contract, and our warranty is written into it. A registered New Jersey roofer with a track record is easier to find next year.
“Ervin from Protech was very good about promptly responding, coming to appointment and explaining the job work that had to be done. Crew came on time … Work was completed on time before the next rain.”
“What is this really going to cost me?”
You can read our estimate and see what you are paying for. No vague line items. If the crew finds more damage once the old roof is off, such as rotted decking, we explain the extra work before we go on. Financing is available if you would rather spread the cost. Typical price ranges are published on our roof replacement cost page, so you can plan before we come out.
“They found an issue with the valley that ended up needing a full replacement instead of a simple repair, and explained everything clearly before moving forward with the extra work.”
“Are they going to wreck my yard and leave a mess?”
Before the first shingle comes off we protect what sits under the roofline. The crew works tied off and is covered by workers’ compensation, so an accident on your property is our responsibility, not yours. Old roofing is hauled away, not left in a pile. When the roof is done we run a magnet over the yard for nails, then walk the job with you.
“Ervin and his crew were professional, taking care not to scratch or damage my new gutters. The workmanship was excellent.”
“Will the fix actually hold?”
A roof is a system: decking, ice and water barrier, underlayment, flashing, ventilation, then the shingles or membrane. We build the whole system, with no skipped layers, and follow the manufacturer’s instructions, which is also what protects your product warranty. Then the weather tests it.
“It rained heavily a day after the job was completed and there was no leak, demonstrating Ervin’s diagnosis and repair were correct and effective.”
Our warranty
Our warranty, in plain terms
Every permanent repair and every replacement comes with a written workmanship warranty from ProTech. The terms are in your contract before work starts, not after.
- Residential roof replacement: minimum 15-year workmanship warranty, longer depending on the roofing product, plus the manufacturer’s limited warranty on the shingles.
- Commercial roof replacement or recover: 5-year workmanship warranty, plus a manufacturer system warranty of 15 to 30 years where the roof qualifies.
- Repairs, home or commercial: minimum 2-year workmanship warranty on the repaired area, longer on some repairs depending on the age and condition of the roof. Emergency tarps and temporary patches are not covered. New materials carry the manufacturer’s warranty where it applies.
A workmanship warranty is only as good as the company behind it. Ours is written into your contract, and the number on this page is the number you call.
How it works
From first call to finished roof
Found a stain on the ceiling? If water is dripping right now, put a bucket under it, take a photo and call (201) 881-2431, seven days a week, 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM. We find where the water is getting in, cover it where needed and price the permanent repair. If it is only a stain and nothing is dripping, call during the same hours and we will come look. Either way, here is the whole job in five steps.
Call or send the form
Tell us what is going on. We call back the same business day and set a time to look at the roof.
Roof inspection
We check shingles or membrane, flashing, vents, skylights, chimney, gutters and the attic when we can get in. We take photos.
Written estimate
You get the scope, materials and price in writing. If a repair will solve it, we say so. We do not push a new roof you do not need.
Schedule and build
We order materials, protect your property and do the work. Most shingle roofs on single-family homes take one to three days.
Clean-up and walkthrough
We haul away debris, run a magnet for nails and walk the job with you. You get finished photos for your records.
“Ervin showed up today for an emergency leak while raining, found the leak, covered with tarp and gave a reasonable price to repair the issue permanently, repair scheduled in 2 days … honest and hard working.”
Local roofer
Roofing contractor in Paramus, serving North Jersey
ProTech Roofing & Exterior has twelve years of roofing experience and more than 3,000 completed projects on homes and commercial buildings across North Jersey.
North Jersey has both kinds of roof on every block: Cape Cods, split-levels and colonials on the side streets, and stores, offices and warehouses with wide flat roofs along the highways. We work on both every week. A steep shingle roof and a flat membrane roof fail in different ways and need different crews, tools and materials, so you deal with one roofer whether you own a house, a storefront or a row of rentals. Our Bergen County roof repair page shows where both kinds of roof leak in our home county and how we find the source.
Steep roofs get architectural shingles from Owens Corning and GAF. Older homes often have natural slate, which we repair with matching pieces, copper and the correct hooks and nails. Flat roofs on commercial buildings, additions, porches and dormers get TPO, PVC, EPDM or modified bitumen, with membranes from Carlisle, Elevate (formerly Firestone), GAF, Mule-Hide and Versico. Not sure which one you have or need? Our flat roofing guide compares them side by side.
Recent work includes a full tear-off and shingle replacement in Saddle Brook and a TPO re-roof on an elementary school.

“We got a new roof with vent installation, new fascia and soffits with aluminum cladding, and new gutters and downspouts. The price was reasonable, work began and ended on schedule, and the work was thorough and well-executed, as was the clean-up. The work to be done and potential issues were addressed well in the consultation, so there were no surprises.”
— Alex O., Google review “The roof installation was completed perfectly, with excellent attention to detail and a high level of craftsmanship. The crew kept the work area clean throughout the project, and the pricing was very fair for the quality of work provided.”
— Anna G., Google review “He did an excellent job on our business property—very professional, reliable, and detail-oriented. The work was completed on time and the quality exceeded our expectations.”
— Kartik P., Google review Commercial “I recently had my entire roof and gutters replaced by ProTech Roofing and couldn’t be happier. The experience from start to finish was stress free. Ervin was very communicative and made sure the work quality was top notch. They were very careful to cleanup afterwards.”

Questions
Roofing questions we hear every week
Do you give free estimates?
Yes. We look at the roof, take photos and give you a written estimate at no charge and with no obligation. Call (201) 881-2431 or send the form on this page.
Are you registered and insured in New Jersey?
Yes. New Jersey registers home improvement contractors through the Division of Consumer Affairs. Our registration number is NJ HIC Reg. #13VH12667100. We carry general liability and workers’ compensation insurance, and we can send you a certificate of insurance before work begins.
Do I need a permit to replace my roof in New Jersey?
Usually not for a house. Under New Jersey’s Uniform Construction Code, replacing the roof covering on a detached one- or two-family home counts as ordinary maintenance, so no construction permit is needed. A permit is needed when roof sheathing or framing is replaced, for new skylight openings, and for townhouses, condos, multi-family and commercial buildings. We check with your town and pull any permit the job requires.
How do I know if I need a repair or a new roof?
Age and the spread of the damage decide it. A leak at one flashing on a 10-year-old roof is a repair. Curling shingles, bare spots and leaks in several places on a 20-year-old roof usually mean replacement costs less over time. We show you photos and explain both options. Read more on our roof repair and roof replacement pages.
How long does a roof replacement take?
Most single-family shingle roofs take one to three days, depending on size, pitch, layers to remove and weather. Slate work and large commercial roofs take longer. Your estimate includes the expected schedule.
Which towns do you serve?
Paramus is home, and we work across Bergen County and the rest of North Jersey, including Ridgewood, Glen Rock, Wyckoff and Franklin Lakes. If you are nearby and do not see your town listed, call us.
Do you work on commercial flat roofs?
Yes. We repair and replace TPO, PVC, EPDM and modified bitumen roofs on stores, offices, warehouses, houses of worship and multi-family buildings. See commercial roofing.
What warranty comes with the work?
A written workmanship warranty from ProTech: a minimum of 15 years on residential roof replacements, 5 years on commercial replacements and recovers, and a minimum of 2 years on permanent repairs, limited to the repaired area and longer on some repairs depending on the age and condition of the roof, plus the warranty from the manufacturer on materials where it applies. Emergency tarps and temporary patches are not covered. The terms are in your contract before work starts.
Do you offer financing?
Yes. Ask about financing when you get your estimate and we will walk you through the options for your project.
My roof is leaking right now. What do I do?
Call (201) 881-2431, Monday through Sunday, 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM. Put a bucket under the drip and take a photo. We find where the water is getting in, stop it with a temporary cover where needed, and give you a written price for the permanent repair.
What happens if you find more damage once the old roof is off?
We explain what we found before we go on. Rotted decking is replaced with new plywood before anything goes on top.
Have a leak or an aging roof?
Call now or send the form. We call back the same business day, look at the roof, take photos and give you a written estimate with no obligation. Financing available.
